Instrument Demo - Future Band Student Paperwork

Today, students went to the Instrument Demonstration given by Mr. Devini.  They were able to listen to each instrument and then should have come home with paperwork today.  If they are interested in a specific instrument, it is recommended that they send the paperwork back as soon as possible.  It is DUE back by Tuesday, June 6th.  Copies of  the paperwork are provided below.

Fruits and Veggie Celebrations

At HMS, we will be celebrating all of our hard work this year with 2 healthy extra snacks.  On Thursday, June 8th, we will be having a "Rainbow of Fruits" celebration, which is perfect for us as we will have NWEA Math in the afternoon after.  Then on Thursday, June 15th, we will be having a "Rainbow of Vegetables" celebration.  If you are able to volunteer to send in any fruits or vegetables on those days, please fill out the paper and return by Tuesday, June 6th.  This paper will come home with students on Thursday (tomorrow).

Instrument Sign Ups

                Instrument Sign Ups!

Mr. Davini will be holding an Instrument Demo for all third graders this
Wednesday (5/31).  He will show students all of the instruments they can
play in fourth grade.  He will also send home a notice for students to sign-up
for their top three choices of instruments.  Usually this notice goes home
the same day as the demo and the sooner the kids get their form back, the
sooner they are to get their top choice of instrument.
*On Wednesday, June 7, from 6:30-7:30 pm, there will be an instrument
sign-up in the Media Center at Memorial. *

If you have any questions, you can email myself or Mr. Davini
(bdavini@sau15.net).

Tie Dye T-shirts

On Friday, we made our tie-dye t-shirts.  Students were very excited to make them.  Thank you to Mrs. Bobay (teaching the class), Mr. Welch (took pictures too), Mrs. Parcel, and Mrs. Cote for helping to make our t-shirts.  Thank you to Mrs. Chasse for washing the t-shirts this weekend.

Fire Assembly

Thank you to the Hooksett Fire Department for coming to HMS last Thursday.  It was great for the students to be able to go inside the ambulance and see what is inside of an EMT's bag.

Bear Brook Field Trip

Today we conquered the mosquitos and beat the rain to have a wonderful field trip.  I am going to try to walk you through our field trip by showing you some pictures.

When we arrived at Bear Brook, we met our counselors for the day, Brian & Hannah.  They showed us around the fields and then took us on a nature walk.

On our walk, we stopped in a wooded area and searched for animals. We found a newt.  Then we saw a large rock that was brought to us from the Ice Age.  We also walked to a marshy area and sat quietly to listen for nature (and swat flies).

After, we went to lunch.  It was during lunch that students got a lesson in composting.

Then it was off to the ponds to scoop animals from the pond.

 Brian & Hannah

Thank you for a great day!

Chorus Concert

Our chorus students did a wonderful job last week.  They have really worked hard all year and should be very proud of themselves.  Congratulations - Nathaniel, Kaylee, Jaylin, Luke & Tobi (not in picture)

BEAR BROOK FIELD TRIP

On Monday, May 22nd, we will be heading to Bear Brook.  We will be leaving by 9:15 am.  Students should wear appropriate clothing and shoes depending on the weather.  This trip is scheduled RAIN or SHINE!   Students should wear sneakers, hiking boots, or rain boots.  Students need to pack a lunch, snacks, and a bottle of water (plastic only, labeled).   Students will be allowed to take their backpacks with them on the trip. Students should wear sunscreen and bug spray to school.  If it appears to be a sunny day, students can pack their sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and extra bug spray in their backpacks.  If it appears to be a rainy day (looks like it may be), students may want to pack a rain coat/sweatshirt.

Head School Field Trip

We had a wonderful field trip to the Head School.  First, the weather was amazing (sunny and a breeze).  Second, the students did a great job following all directions.  Third, the school teachers did an excellent job.  And lastly, the parent volunteers were wonderful.  Here are some pictures from our day...

Head School - Writing Homework

Today, I sent home a journal entry about their trip to the Head School for students to complete for homework.  Students should be telling me about their day from the perspective of a student from long ago.  Each student was given a name of long ago to write about.  I have decided to allow 2 days to complete this.  DUE: Thursday, May 18th.  Also, students will not be reading from their reading book on Wednesday for homework.  This will allow students more time to write.

Tie Dye T-Shirt Sign Up

Tomorrow, students will be coming home with the volunteer Tie Dye T-Shirt papers.  If you are able to come in to help, please fill out the paper and return to me.  We are also looking for 1 parent to take the t-shirt home and wash them.  Thank you in advance for all your help.

Week of May 15th - Updates

The next two weeks are going to be very busy for us!  For that reason, I wanted to just update everyone on some important dates...

Tuesday, May 16th - HeadSchool Field Trip - Students can dress up like the time period. Girls can wear braids, long dresses, black boots, etc.  Boys can wear overalls, suspenders, etc.  It's very important the students and volunteers are on time.  The bus will leaving promptly at 9:15am.

Thursday, May 18th - HMS Band Concert - We will get the chance to get a preview of the band concert in the morning.

Monday - May 22nd - Bear Brook Field Trip - As a reminder, there are no volunteers for this field trip and no money is needed.  We will be doing a lot of walking, so students will want to wear sneakers or boots, as well as, dress appropriately for the weather.  Remember to put on sunscreen and bug spray if necessary.

Friday - May 26th - Tie Dye T-Shirts - There will be a sign up coming home soon.  We are looking for parents who want to volunteer to come in to help with the tie dying.  We are scheduled for 1:50pm.  Also, we are asking on parent to take the shirts home to wash.  More information to come.

With all of these exciting activities in mind, I have decided that we will have our spelling test this week as scheduled.  However, I will not be assigning a spelling test next week.  Also, the next story, "Pueblo Storyteller", will be read over the next two weeks.  During this time, we will also be working on a writing prompt about "Animals in Captivity".

In Math, we will be finishing Chapter 15 with Measurement.  In Social Studies, we will be focusing on Long Ago.  Students will be comparing today to long ago.

Book Buddies on Friday

On Friday, our book buddies came to our room to teach us about the Oregon Trail, which they have been studying.  They showed us the "Oregon Trail" game.  Students were able to experience what it was like back then.  If students want to try this game at home, they can go on at https://classicreload.com/oregon-trail.html  or google "Oregon Trail dos game".  We had a fun time!

Revenge Tag

The students have had a wonderful week and worked very hard.  Therefore, I rewarded them with an extra recess.  Students decided that they wanted to play revenge tag.  We used the basketball court and had a great game of tag.  Christopher was the official "untagger".  Check out some pictures....

Supply Request

As the school year is coming to an end, I am finding that I am running out of some key supplies.

Tissues

Pencils

Clorox Wipes

Any donations would be welcome.

THANK YOU!

Fluency for Homework this Week

Several students came to me this morning to ask me about the Word Wall Words.  I have decided to NOT have the students complete the questions this week.  Instead, I have changed the chart on the front of the paper so that students have the 1st, 2nd and 3rd try spots.  (See example below)I told students that anyone who wants to do the questions can get extra credit points on their spelling test.

Bear Brook Field Trip

This field trip form was sent home with students yesterday!   Unfortunately, we are unable to take chaperones but there is no cost for this field trip.  This field trip will be rain or shine and will take place in the "woods" of Bear Brook.  Students MUST wear sneakers or other appropriate shoes (that can and will get dirty).  Students should wear weather appropriate clothing and wear sunscreen and bug spray.  I will pack additional bug spray to keep with us in case.  Please return the authorization form attached.  Students will also need to pack a bag lunch, water bottle (plastic, labeled), and snacks.

This trip is scheduled for our class on Monday, May 22, 2017.

Tie Dye T-Shirts

It's almost that time of year when students will be tie-dying their shirts for Field Day!  We will be tie-dying on Friday, May 26 at 1:50 pm.   We will be looking for volunteers to help with tie-dying as well as a volunteer who is willing to wash and dry the shirts.  Information will go home about this soon!
